Digital Twin Slovenia research was presented at the ISPRS Congress 2026 in Toronto, highlighting the development of a national geospatial digital twin framework and a flood-management pilot for Lake Cerknica.

From national data integration to flood monitoring

The presented work, titled Towards a National Geospatial Digital Twin in Slovenia: Multi-Source Integration and a Flood Pilot for Hazard Management, explores how authoritative geospatial data, Earth Observation, terrain information and in-situ observations can be connected within a common Digital Twin framework.

The approach was demonstrated through the Lake Cerknica pilot, where long-term water-level observations and terrain data are used to reconstruct flood extent and water depth.

Lake Cerknica as a real-world pilot
The flood pilot supports daily inundation reconstruction, flood-frequency analysis, historical event exploration and decision support for hazard management and spatial planning.

Connecting research with operational Digital Twin services

The study demonstrates how multi-source spatial information can move beyond traditional data-sharing platforms and become part of an interactive Digital Twin environment for analysis, visualisation and scenario evaluation.

Validation of the Lake Cerknica pilot included 26 PlanetScope scenes from 2023–2025, providing an independent comparison between reconstructed and satellite-derived flood extent.
